Mallory Collins is a senior at Charles Page High School while younger sister Jessica Collins is a freshman at Central Ninth Grade Center.  The pair make for a unique tandem in the dugout for head coach Shelli Brown. “How about double trouble (laughs)? I know it’s even been more special for them being able to play a year together and going to state.”

VYPE got the two sisters to sit down and discuss life on and off the field, funny moments playing together and what the season has been like as teammates.

VYPE: So what has it been like playing together at the varsity level?

MC: It’s been something I have been looking forward to for years, it’s harder for her because I go harder on her just to make her more successful.

JC: It’s different playing with older girls, but I like it.

VYPE: Have you played on the same team before at any level or age?

MC: No we have not.

JC: No

VYPE: What positions do you play?

MC: Pitcher and second base.

JC: Second base and outfield.

VYPE: So here’s a tough question, who’s better at the plate and who’s better in the field?

MC: I think I’m better at the plate. I’m a power hitter, and she’s a bunter. But she has me beat in the field. She’s quick.

JC: Mallory is better at both.

VYPE: Are you guys more like rivals or more supportive of each other?

MC: We’re definitely support each other. You can see our sister bond on the field a lot just because we know each others strengths and weaknesses.

JC: Both! We are competitive at practice but supportive in games.

VYPE: What’s the funniest thing you’ve seen your sister do on the field?

MC: It’s funny when Jessica tries to dive, she just belly flops then lays there (laughs).

JC: She gives three claps for everyone that makes an error.

VYPE: Tell us your most memorable moment this season?

MC: We have a handshake that we made up and we do it every time something good happens. I will remember my baby sister playing my senior year of high school with me.

JC: Winning regionals would be my most memorable moment, but I’ll always remember being with my sister.

VYPE: This is for Mallory, what advice would you give your sister as she prepares for the rest of her high school years?

MC: It’s stressful but as long as you keep an open mind and big heart, it’s so possible. Always smile and never stop reaching for your goal.

VYPE: Jessica this one’s for you. What advice would you give your sister as she prepares for the next chapter in her life?

JC: Stay awesome, never give up! I will always be your No.1 fan no matter what. Keep being you!
