Southmoore Takes Softball Title in Dominant Fashion
Moore schools are not strangers to hoisting the champions’ trophy in slow-pitch softball. Westmoore has five titles to their credit and Moore has two of their own, but Southmoore’s only title came in 2014, until this spring when they dominated Muskogee, 15-4 to win their second slow-pitch softball title.
The top ranked team in Class 6A, the Sabercats used their offensive prowess to pull away from the Lady Roughers and never look back. Lindsey Stoeckel and Trenity Edwards hit back-to-back homeruns in the fifth after Sabrina Childres blasted a two-run shot in the third. Stoeckel sent another one over the fence in the sixth to end the game. That two-run dinger gave the Sabercats the 15-4 run ruled victory.
Collectively the Sabercats recorded more than 30 homeruns on the season on their way to a record of 32-3 on the season. The Lady Cats rolled through Tahlequah (20-10), Tecumseh (11-4) and Muskogee (15-4) to become the 2016 Class 6A state champions.
