Callie and Brenna Busby are seniors at Washington High School where they play varsity softball for head coach Jace Brewer. The pair have accomplished some amazing things on the diamond including winning five state championships. So when peers call them the Wonder Twins, you have to take notice and because we’re all superhero fans at VYPE, we somehow caught up with the pair to pick their brains about playing softball, winning five titles and moving on together to Cameron University.
VYPE: I recently heard someone call you two the wonder twins. What do you think about when someone calls you that?
Callie: Wow! How cool! I hope we live up to that! I think that being a twin has been an advantage, we always had someone to play ball with!
Brenna: Really? I’ve never heard that, but it sounds pretty cool. Was it one of my parents?
VYPE: What jersey number do you wear and is there a reason you picked it?
Callie: #12, They didn’t have a #45 which was number in little league.
Brenna: #16, that’s the jersey that was hanging in my locker first day of freshman year.
VYPE: What has it been like to win all of these titles while at Washington High School?
Callie: It is really unbelievable, I would never have imagined we would win 5 state championships with our best friends.
Brenna: Truly amazing. I couldn’t have asked for better teammates. These girls are family.
VYPE: What positions do you play?
Callie- Catcher and right field.
Brenna- Second base and shortstop.
VYPE: Do you two have a routine or something you do before a game?
Callie: My pre game routine usually involves making fun of Bethany, putting on eye-black, and handshakes with Brenna after playing catch. I’ve had the same catch partner since we were five.
Brenna: Before game time I eat a snack, get dressed, and after catch do handshakes with Callie. Then I hunt down Coach Labeth for a piece of bubble gum.
VYPE: Most memorable moment on the field you’ve had with your sister?
Callie: Winning state, each time is a different feeling. You just can’t beat being at the bottom of the dog pile.
Brenna: Nothing beats winning state, but a close second would be getting outs on throw downs from Callie.
VYPE: Is there a third Busby?
Callie & Brenna- Yes, big brother Ki.
VYPE: You guys have signed with Cameron University. What are you looking forward to the most about college?
Callie: Living with Bethany, Brenna, and Emily and being able to play the game I love for four more years.
Brenna: Living in the dorms, hopefully Callie will make me food everyday, and getting to play softball at the next level.
VYPE: One thing you are taking with you from home to Cameron?
Callie: My fish, Carl.
Brenna: My astronaut sloth pillowcase.
VYPE: Who will handle the laundry duties in college?
Callie: We’ve been doing our own laundry since second grade, but you should see Brenna’s it looks like a mountain!
Brenna: Oh this is an easy question, Callie.
VYPE: Is there something you love to eat that your sister doesn’t? If so what?
Callie: Seafood. Brenna won’t even eat fish sticks, I could eat it every week.
Brenna: No! Callie will eat anything.
VYPE: Have you decided on a major?
Callie: Dermatologist.
Brenna: I haven’t decided yet. I’m interested in weather or something in the medical field.
VYPE: Do you enjoy having classes together or is it best if you take different classes?
Callie: We were always in different classes growing up so we weren’t really together until high school. We’re both pretty good about homework, but it’s nice to have someone to work on the assignments with.
Brenna: It doesn’t bother me either way, but it is nice to have a study buddy that lives with you.
VYPE: On a road trip, who prefers to drive?
Callie: Me, Brenna really doesn’t even need her license.
Brenna: Callie. I like being chauffeured and having control of the aux cord.
VYPE: One thing the public either doesn’t know about you two or something they always get wrong?
Callie: We each only have one dimple both on our left cheek. Brenna always wants to wrestle, I don’t know why because I always beat her.
Brenna: We have no middle names. Also people assume I’m the messy twin, but I’m usually very tidy.
